Bio

I enjoy using both photography and art to capture the beauty and history of the greater Monterey area: seascapes, landscapes, places of interest and beauty like the Carmel Mission.  Inspiration from God's creation is everywhere in this beautiful part of the world.  I work both plein aire, and from my own photographs.

I grew up in New York, and majored in English at the State University campus in the small upstate town of Oneonta (not far from the baseball hall of fame in Cooperstown).  I moved to Menlo Park California in 1976, and lived there as well as in Los Altos and Saratoga before moving to Monterey in 2002.  Although I’ve always enjoyed drawing and painting, I didn’t get the opportunity to invest time either studying or pursuing this interest until I was able to move rather late in life from a full time plus career as a computer software entrepreneur and consultant to part time work.

Initially searching for a class in oil or acrylic painting that would work for my schedule I was only able to find a watercolor class.  I guess this was fate as I fell in love with transparent watercolor. Living in the bay area, I took classes with Jane Hofstetter, Amy Konsterlie, and Floy Zitten.  Since moving to Monterey I’ve taken classes and workshops with Jane Flury, Marie Gilmore, Ben Anderson, and Dale Laitinene.

I am a member of the Monterey Bay Plein Aire Painters Association (MBPAPA) and the Monterey Peninsula Find Arts organization (MPFA) and serve on the board of the Central Coast Art Association (CCAA). I exhibit locally at shows and special events and have won various awards. I donate paintings to fundraisers such as for the Monterey Art Museum’s and the Pacific Grove Art Center.  My work was sold in Pacific Grove (620 on the Avenue) and the Peter Silzer gallery in Pacific Grove until these venues closed.
